You can find the course syllabus here. It's modeled after other classes on organizational behavior. These mainly are taught by other faculty at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). Some are taught elsewhere in graduate degree programs.
As first taught the organizational behavior course six years ago at NPS. I found the peer-reviewed journal article "What do we teach in organizational behavior?" very helpful in my planning then. It helped me to hone in on the specific topics (see pg. 455) I needed to include in my syllabus. The "most frequently assigned articles" (see pg. 458) inspired my selection of readings. I've continued to modify my selections readings and case studies over time. Conversations with colleagues who teach the class and student evaluations inspire my efforts.
My syllabi are LONG. In this instance, it's 24 pages long. My intent is to address in writing any possible topic or concern of interest to my students. That includes classroom procedures, assignments, individual class topics, and assigned readings. During my first class tomorrow (July 8), I'll review the syllabus and answer questions about it. If questions or topics come up that are not addressed in the existing syllabus, I'll add them.
I use Google documents to publish and share my syllabus with students. That makes it easier for me to make any changes and communicate them to students. Creating a stand alone Microsoft Word document, then having to update and replace it, has never worked nearly as well.
