We'll continue our discussion of the Drill Sergeants case study today. Given that the case spans several topics covered in the class, the conversation will continue past today's class. What I plan to focus on is the leadership challenge of how to motivate and incentivize a specific group of followers within an organizational culture and context.
We'll then look at perception and decision making. It's the next topic that considers the individual component of organizational behavior. The organizing questions on these topics are as follows:
- How do we make sense of what happens in our lives? How do we construct meaning?
- How do we make judgements about others?
- How do we use this information to think through options and make decisions?
I've planned a role-playing activity where students will apply what they've learned about errors of perception and biases. It's the first time I've tried such an activity in teaching this class. I'll report on it in my next post here.
